You simply cannot talk about Atlanta pizza without bowing to Antico. Tucked away on Hemphill Avenue, stepping into this bustling, flour-dusted space feels like crashing a chaotic, wonderful family dinner in Naples. The massive, custom-built ovens churn out pies with that signature leopard-spotted char in just a matter of seconds. Grab a seat at one of the communal tables right in the middle of the kitchen action, and whatever you do, order the San Gennaro—it's loaded with sweet red peppers and spicy sausage that hits the perfect balance of heat and tang.
Glide Pizza
Whenever I need a quick, no-nonsense slice that rivals the best of Brooklyn, I head straight to Auburn Avenue. Glide Pizza operates out of a highly photogenic walk-up window, serving up massive, foldable slices crafted from a naturally fermented sourdough crust. There is an incredibly satisfying crunch to the bottom of these pies that holds up perfectly to their homemade mozzarella. It's the ideal grab-and-go meal to enjoy while walking down the BeltLine. Do yourself a favor and get their signature garlic knots, too.
Tandoori Pizza & Wing Co
Atlanta is a city of brilliant mashups, and this Midtown spot is proof. Tandoori Pizza & Wing Co brings something entirely fresh to the table by fusing classic pizza fundamentals with rich, deeply spiced Indian flavors. I was skeptical the first time I visited, but one bite of their Paneer Tikka pizza completely won me over. The crust is sturdy enough to hold the vibrant, heavily spiced toppings, creating an incredible flavor profile that is both comforting and completely unexpected.
Fellini's Pizza
For a heavy dose of local nostalgia, Fellini’s is the undisputed king. With locations scattered around town, the Ponce De Leon outpost is my personal favorite, mostly for its expansive, fountain-centered patio. It’s a late-night institution where you order giant, floppy slices at the counter, grab a cold draft beer, and sit outside under the Georgia pines. It’s unpretentious, incredibly consistent, and serves exactly the kind of satisfying, gooey cheese slice you crave after a long night out in the city.
Slim & Husky's Pizza (Adair Park)
Down in Adair Park, Slim & Husky's brings phenomenal energy, a killer hip-hop soundtrack, and artisan oblong pizzas that never disappoint. I love the build-your-own nature of their menu, allowing you to pile on fresh ingredients like smoked salmon, spicy sausage, and plant-based options, all finished with a drizzle of their house-made sauces. The atmosphere is loud, welcoming, and deeply rooted in community culture. Be sure to save room for their cinnamon rolls; they are dangerously good.
How to Plan Your Atlanta Pizza Run
If you're gearing up to explore these spots, a little local strategy goes a long way. Atlanta's best pizza is decidedly casual—don't worry about trying to book reservations months in advance. Most spots, including Glide and Fellini's, operate as counter-service or walk-up joints.
For bustling heavyweights like Antico, timing is everything. Try to visit for a late lunch or an early dinner before the 7 PM rush to avoid circling the block looking for parking. Price points vary wildly depending on the experience you're after. You can easily feed yourself with an oversized slice and a soda at Fellini's for well under $10, while a sit-down affair with imported Italian ingredients at Antico will run closer to $25 a pie.
